Troop 8051, proudly chartered by Christ Lutheran Church under Scoutmaster Joshua Priest, and Troop 8054, proudly chartered by Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church under Scoutmaster Gary Goodwill, joined forces on May 3, 2026, for a meaningful conservation project along the Colorado River in Yuma, Arizona.
The cleanup effort brought together Scouts and members of the Castle Dome Chapter of the Wipli Wiki Lodge in a shared mission to protect and restore a vital local waterway. Working side by side, participants spent the day removing trash and debris from the river corridor, reinforcing the importance of environmental stewardship and community responsibility.
Beyond the physical impact of the cleanup, the event served as a powerful example of Scouting’s deeper purpose—building connection through service. As Scouts worked together, the experience naturally evolved into something more than a single-day project.
AJ G., a Scouts BSA member of Troop 8051, reflected on the significance of the day:
“Working along the Colorado River with Troop 8051, 8054, and the Wipli Wiki Lodge made it clear this wasn’t just a cleanup it was a chance to connect and serve together.”

Following the cleanup, participants gathered for a reflective discussion centered on the history of the Order of the Arrow in Yuma. This portion of the day added depth to the experience, offering Scouts and members a chance to learn from the past while strengthening relationships in the present.
Together, the service project and fellowship session highlighted what Scouting looks like at its best: young people and adult leaders coming together not only to improve their community, but also to build lasting bonds through shared purpose and service.
