Troops 323 & 3323 Keep Greenway Parkway Clean Through 19 Years of Service

Troop 323 and Troop 3323, chartered by All Saints Lutheran Church, have been proudly serving the community through the City of Phoenix Adopt-A-Street program for nearly two decades. Under the leadership of Assistant Scoutmaster Troop 323 and Scoutmaster Troop 3323 Leslie Newell, Scouts continue a long-standing tradition of service, responsibility, and teamwork along Greenway Parkway.

“Troops 323 and 3323 participate in the City of Phoenix’s Adopt-A-Street program, and we clean up a stretch of Greenway Parkway between 7th and 19th Avenues. Once per month, our Scouts assemble at Mountain Sky Middle School, review safety procedures, and clean both sides of this stretch of road. Each month, leadership rotates between patrols, but Scouts and leaders from any patrol are encouraged to show up.”

“During each cleanup, our Scouts typically collect at least five large bags of garbage, and often find many strange things, such as an entire car wheel, a VHS copy of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and even a 2016 Toyota Camry manual with every page torn out one by one. Rumor has it one person found a $10 bill one time. And once our Gorfs Patrol found the electronic memory game Simon. They took it home, cleaned it, put in batteries, and it worked perfectly. Our Scouts recently checked troop records and found that we’ve been participating in the program for more than 19 years, since October 2007. We have records for nearly 200 cleanups!”

While the physical impact of removing litter is clear, the program also teaches Scouts valuable lessons in teamwork, responsibility, and civic engagement. Working together each month, Scouts learn that small, consistent actions can make a lasting difference in their community.

As Troops 323 and 3323 continue their service, they remain committed to keeping Greenway Parkway clean—and to building strong leaders along the way!
