On March 21, 2026, Pack 7136 and Pack 7140 organized and hosted the Flagstaff–Williams Community Pinewood Derby at Flagstaff Chevrolet on West Highway 66. The event brought together Scouts, families, and volunteers for an exciting day of racing, teamwork, and community spirit.
More than 20 Scouts from Packs 7112, 7136, 7140, and 7142 showcased their creativity and craftsmanship as their custom-built cars raced down the track. Friends and family members filled the venue, cheering on participants and celebrating a day focused on fun, fellowship, and friendly competition. Medals and trophies were awarded to recognize standout designs and fast finishes.
Support from local Scouts BSA troops played a key role in making the event run smoothly. Troop 7140 and Troop 9140 assisted by managing the holding area and operating the starting line for the den-level heats, helping ensure each race stayed organized and on schedule. The Pinewood Derby was just one example of the many ways Scouts and Scouters in the Flagstaff–Williams area come together throughout the year.
On May 23, 2026, Scouts and Scouters from across the Flagstaff–Williams community partnered with VFW Post 1709 and American Legion Post 3 to honor America’s fallen heroes by placing American flags on veterans’ graves in preparation for Memorial Day observances. Scouts located veteran gravesites and respectfully placed flags at Citizens Cemetery and Calvary Cemetery in Flagstaff, as well as the Camp Navajo Veterans Cemetery in Bellemont.
Participating Cub Scout Packs included 7033, 7036, 7112, 7136, and 7142. Scouts BSA Troops 7033, 7036, 7039, and 7134 also participated, along with Venturing Crew 1876. Their efforts helped ensure that hundreds of veterans would be remembered and honored during Memorial Day ceremonies.
Continuing that tradition of service, Pack 7140 and Troops 7140 and 9140 will supported American Legion Post 13 by providing an Honor Guard at Williams Cemetery on May 25, 2026. Scouts returned on May 26 to assist with respectfully collecting the flags following Memorial Day observances.
Whether racing Pinewood Derby cars, supporting community events, or honoring those who served our nation, Scouts throughout the Flagstaff–Williams area continue to demonstrate the values of citizenship, leadership, service, and teamwork. These activities not only strengthen Scouting programs but also create lasting connections between Scouts, families, veterans, and the communities they serve.
