Scouting for Clean Waterways: Troop 3030 Makes an Impact at Bartlett Lake Shoreline

On May 9, 2026Troop 3030, proudly chartered by the Friends and Supporters of Troop 30 in Paradise Valley and guided by Scoutmaster LaDawn Bentley, took part in a meaningful day of service at Bartlett Lake. Troop 3030 joined the ongoing effort to protect waterways through hands-on conservation work, and what began as a morning service project quickly became a strong example of teamwork, stewardship, and community.

By the end of the cleanup, Scouts had collected 14 trash bags totaling 126 pounds of waste, helping restore and protect one of the Valley’s most visited natural recreation areas.

The Bartlett Lake shoreline cleanup was completed as part of Scouting for Clean Waterways, a national initiative that encourages Scouts to take action in their local communities to help protect water resources. Units across the council were invited to participate in this flexible “Conservation Good Turn,” designed to make conservation services accessible and meaningful for all Scouts.

The project was led on-site by Graham Twaddell, Outdoor Ethics & Conservation Committee Chair, who helped coordinate efforts and ensure Scouts had a safe and productive service experience.

Beyond the numbers, the success of the cleanup came down to collaboration. Scouts worked together along the shoreline, steadily collecting debris that impacts both wildlife and water quality. Their efforts reflect the core values of Scouting—service, responsibility, and leaving every place better than they found it.
