Each year, Scouting Arizona, Grand Canyon Council honors 8 outstanding Scouts who exemplify the values of Scouting through leadership, service, heroism, and Scout spirit.

Selected Scouts will:
- Be recognized as a 2026 Scout of the Year
- Receive a $500 scholarship toward secondary education
- Serve as youth spokespeople for Scouting at public relations and fundraising events
- Gain a prestigious achievement to highlight on school, scholarship, and award applications
We’re looking for youth making a lasting impact—in their units and in their communities. Scouts may apply themselves or be nominated by a unit leader.

Q: Who should apply?
A: Any registered youth in the Grand Canyon Council—From Cub Scouts to Eagle Scouts, if a Scout has shown:
- Scout Spirit
- Leadership
- Heroism
- Community Service
- Citizenship
…they are eligible for this award. There is no rank requirement.
Q: What types of education can the $500 scholarship be used for?
A: The $500 scholarship can be applied toward any form of higher education, including traditional colleges and universities as well as trade schools, vocational programs, technical training, or other post-secondary education paths.
Q: How to apply (or Nominate a Scout)?
A: It’s easier than ever—ideally, a Scout applies with their Scoutmaster, Cubmaster, or parent, and the whole process takes under 10 minutes. Youth should include parent or unit leader contact info. The form includes a short essay (up to 500 words) or video response answering how the Scout has shown spirit, leadership, heroism, service, or citizenship! Q: What makes a strong application?
A: Share a compelling story of impact! Whether it’s a service project, heroic act, or leadership role—show how the Scout lives the Scout Oath and Law.
Q: What’s the time commitment if selected?
A: Scouts of the Year may be asked to attend 2–4 events during the year and help represent Scouting in their communities.
