Three Months. One Troop. Endless Momentum.

Scouts BSA Troop 3917 has taken off with energy, enthusiasm, and unstoppable drive. Proudly chartered by Maricopa Youth and Leadership in the Casa Grande Maricopa Unified Community, this troop represents youth from Casa Grande, Eloy, Arizona City, and Maricopa—and they’re already making their mark in the Scouting world.
Troop 3917 began their journey with four girls crossing over into Scouts BSA. Soon after, two more joined—just in time for their first adventure together: the Camp Geronimo Service Weekend. All six girls, ages 11 and 12, came together with curiosity and courage, ready to take on new experiences.
Before heading to summer camp, four of the Scouts earned their Scout rank—a strong start for a brand-new unit! Then came the big test: their first week at Camp Geronimo, attending the Brownsea Island program for first-year campers.

A Rainy Start, A Bright Finish
The troop’s week at camp was anything but ordinary. They faced heavy rain, deep mud, and went without running water until the final two days. But none of that stopped Troop 3917! Through it all, they stayed upbeat and resilient— showing true Scout spirit every step of the way!
“They powered through every challenge with laughter and enthusiasm—exactly the kind of Scout spirit we love to see,” said Scoutmaster, Margaret Vermeulen. “They were always on the go, taking advantage of everything, camp had to offer.”
The Scouts made the most of every moment and came home with an impressive list of accomplishments:
- Graduated the Brownsea Island Program
- Earned 3 Rainbow Trails badges
- Took home 2 gold beads
- Completed a merit badge
- Earned their Totin’ Chip and Firem’n Chit
- Achieved Big G Gold!
When not advancing through the program, they were busy making new friends over games of gaga ball, enjoying horseback riding, and diving into everything camp Geronimo had to offer!

Community Support
The troop extends heartfelt thanks to Troop 7, whose Scouts and leaders provided guidance, mentorship, and countless camp tips. Their support helped both the Scouts and adult leaders feel confident and prepared! Also, key to their success were Commissioners Bob and Cory, who brought a fun, helpful presence to camp and supported the Scouts every step of the way.
Troop 3917’s story is just beginning—but if the first three months are any indication, their future Scouting is bright. With strength, spirit, and support behind them, these Scouts are ready to take on whatever comes next!
