Scouting is about preparing young people for moments that build character, leadership, and a lifelong commitment to service. Few experiences embody those values more profoundly than standing at one of our nation’s most sacred memorials.
On June 12, 2026, Troop 285, proudly chartered by Mission del Sol Presbyterian Church in Chandler, Arizona, participated in the distinguished Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. The ceremony took place as the troop traveled to Summit Bechtel Reserve, where Scouts will participate in the ATV Experience.
Representing Troop 285 during this solemn ceremony were four Eagle Scouts—Luke F., Evan V., Colin W., and Dillon F.—who had the honor of laying a wreath in tribute to the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.
The troop’s journey also included several days exploring Washington, D.C., providing Scouts with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of our nation’s history and government. During their visit, the Scouts met with staff from Senator Mark Kelly’s office, which graciously arranged a guided tour of the United States Capitol, giving the troop a firsthand look at our nation’s government.
Experiences like these remind us that Scouting extends far beyond camping and outdoor adventure. They inspire citizenship, strengthen leadership, and connect young people with the ideals that have shaped our nation. Whether honoring those who served, engaging with our democratic institutions, or taking on new challenges at Summit Bechtel Reserve, these Scouts exemplify what it means to be prepared for life.
Congratulations to Scoutmaster Joe Fulton and the Scouts of Troop 285 for representing Scouting Arizona with honor, respect, and excellence.
