Service, leadership, and community impact define Nolan’s journey as the 2026 Scout of the Year. From volunteering over 500 hours at the Flagstaff Family Food Center to founding the city’s only Venturing Crew, Nolan has made a lasting difference while growing as a leader.
Nolan is an Eagle Scout from Troop 7031 and President of Venturing Crew 1876 in Flagstaff. He began his Scouting journey in 2019, inspired by his older brother, and quickly found his passion for outdoor adventure, community service, and mentorship.
“My favorite part about scouting is definitely the people. I have met some lifelong friends… and in experiences where I get to go to other parts of the state or other parts of the country, I meet new people and they're always so amazing to be with.”

Nolan has served as Senior Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, and Webmaster, demonstrating leadership through mentoring Scouts, organizing volunteer events, and starting Venture Crew 1876, which now includes over a dozen youth. His Eagle Scout project created a Children’s Reading Room at the Flagstaff Family Food Center, benefiting countless families.
“I believe that the people you surround yourself with will contribute to the kind of person you become. The characters that scouting builds are so incredible and they really contribute to who you become as a person.”

Nolan has also led environmental initiatives, including composting programs and service on the Governor’s Youth Commission Conservation and Sustainability workgroup. His community service has earned him the President’s Volunteer Service Award and the Congressional Gold Award. Beyond Scouting, he has summited Mt. Kilimanjaro, climbed the Grand Tetons, and attended NYLT and NAYLE, combining adventure with academic and personal growth.
Living the Scout Oath and Law
For Nolan, the Scout Oath and Law are guiding principles that influence every decision and interaction.
“To me, the Scout Oath and Law is more than a set of rules… I think of it as a standard that I have to live up to and be the person that the Scout Oath and Law asks you to be.”
