Once a Scout, Always a Scout: Welcoming Matthew Irsfeld to the Council Alumni Committee

Honoring a Legacy of Leadership: Eagle Scout Matthew Irsfeld Joins the Flagstaff Alumni Team

The Grand Canyon Council Alumni Association is proud to welcome Eagle Scout Matthew Irsfeld as the newest member of our Council Alumni Committee, representing the Flagstaff area. Matthew joins a dedicated group of volunteers who continue to live out the values of Scouting long after earning their badges and neckerchiefs.

Our local chapter is part of Scouting America’s Alumni communities, which includes the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA), Camp Geronimo Staff Alumni, Wood Badge, Silver Beavers, the Order of the Arrow, and many more. These groups bring together Scouting alumni who share common experiences, values, and a passion for giving back. United by our motto, “Once a Scout, Always a Scout,” we create opportunities to support current Scouts while honoring the memories and friendships formed along the trail.

Meet Matthew Irsfeld

Eagle Scout Matthew Irsfeld exemplifies Scouting’s spirit of leadership and service. A Vigil Honor member of Tahosa Lodge and Triple Crown of High Adventure recipient, Matthew’s journey includes distinguished involvement in both the Venturing and Sea Scouting programs at every level.

Matthew’s national service is especially noteworthy. He recently served as National Venturing Vice President of Communication, where he strengthened collaboration across crews, councils, and national leadership. Prior to that, his roles included Territory 2 Boatswain (a Sea Scout position equivalent to a Troop Senior Patrol Leader) and National Boatswain’s Mate (comparable to a Troop Assistant Senior Patrol Leader) of Communications, where he launched Sea Scouts’ presence on TikTok and developed lasting communications tools for youth leaders.

His contributions also include helping to lead the first National Virtual Sea Scout Academy, where he trained and inspired more than 100 participants. As a member of the National Quarterdeck Publicity Subcommittee, he partnered with NESA and the Order of the Arrow to promote continued engagement opportunities for older youth.

In recognition of his cross-program leadership, Matthew became the first Scout in history to receive both the National Sea Scout Leadership Award and the National Venturing Leadership Award.

Now a junior at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Matthew brings his passion and experience to the Council Alumni Committee in Flagstaff. We are excited to see the impact he’ll make in connecting alumni, supporting local Scouting, and continuing to inspire the next generation of leaders.

Welcome, Matthew! Grand Canyon Council is proud to celebrate this exceptional Scout and alumnus.
