Leadership and Service: Arizona Attorney General Meets with Troop 329 and 3329

Arizona Attorney General Visits Troop 329 and Troop 3329 to Discuss Community and Leadership

Troop 329 and Troop 3329 had the honor of welcoming Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes for a special discussion as part of the Citizenship in the Community merit badge. Her visit provided scouts with a firsthand look at how government leaders work to support and protect their communities, reinforcing key principles of the merit badge, including civic engagement, leadership, and responsibility.

Attorney General Mayes spoke about her current efforts to help Arizona residents, including her work to prevent price gouging on rental properties. She emphasized the importance of fair housing and ensuring that families are not unfairly burdened by rising costs. Her work aligns with the merit badge’s focus on understanding local issues and recognizing how government officials play a role in shaping policies that affect everyday life.

She also shared a personal story that illustrated the power of reaching out and making connections. While on a plane with then-Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano, she introduced herself—a simple act that led to her being asked to serve as the Governor’s press secretary. This story resonated with the scouts, highlighting how taking initiative and engaging with others can lead to unexpected opportunities to serve the community.

The scouts eagerly asked questions about her role, the challenges she faces, and how they, as young citizens, can make a difference. Through this discussion, they gained a deeper understanding of how they can be active participants in their communities, whether through leadership, service, or advocacy.

Troop 329 and Troop 3329 are grateful for Attorney General Mayes’ visit and the insights she shared. Her visit brought the Citizenship in the Community merit badge to life, showing scouts how leadership and service go hand in hand in making a difference.
