Quick question—what were you doing at age 87?

If your answer wasn’t “riding over 400 miles across Iowa to raise money for Arizona Scouts,” then allow us to introduce you to our friend (and board rockstar) Sam Kelsall.
Sam is an Eagle Scout, a Philmont alum, a proud grandpa, a full-time legend—and somehow, he still has more energy than most of us put together.
Every summer, Sam straps on his helmet, clips into his pedals, and conquers RAGBRAI—a 7-day, over 400-mile bike ride across Iowa (yes, it’s hot, and yes, there are actual hills). He trains like a pro, wears the most patriotic cycling gear you’ve ever seen, and turns the entire journey into a fundraising mission for one thing: Scouting in Arizona.
And if there’s anyone we trust to ride across the Midwest in July heat and still make us laugh along the way—it’s Sam.
But here’s the thing—this ride isn’t just about endurance or adventure. It’s about impact.
Sam believes deeply in what Scouting offers young people: character, courage, resilience, and leadership rooted in the Scout Oath and Law. He’s someone who lives those values daily—Helpful, Loyal, Brave… and yes, maybe just a little bit adventurous beyond reason (but we wouldn’t have it any other way).
That’s where you come in.
If you’ve ever been impacted by Scouting—or simply believe the world could use a few more kind, confident, and capable young people—would you consider making a donation to support Sam’s ride and the mission he’s pedaling for?
Here’s the best part: every gift made to support Sam’s ride will be matched dollar for dollar, doubling the impact of your donation and helping more Arizona youth experience the power of Scouting.
Every dollar helps deliver leadership programs, camp experiences, and life-changing adventures to youth across Arizona. And every gift makes Sam’s ride just a little more meaningful (and a lot more worth the sore legs).
Thank you so much for considering a gift—and if you want to cheer Sam on, feel free to send a note of encouragement. Just don’t challenge him to a race. You’ll lose. Seriously.
