A Fond Farewell to Val and Clay Turner – Leaders Who Made a Lasting Impact on Venturing Crew 2041

After years of inspiring leadership and service, Val and Clay Turner are celebrated by Crew 2041 and Troop 41 as they head off to new adventures in the Pacific Northwest.

Venturing Crew 2041 is bidding a heartfelt farewell to two leaders—Val and Clay Turner. After years of dedicated service as Crew Advisor and Committee Chair, they are moving to the Pacific Northwest, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, friendship, and unforgettable adventures!

When Val stepped into the role of Crew Advisor, she helped guide Crew 2041 through a period of exciting growth, shaping it into the healthy, active, and adventurous unit it is today. With members from both the Phoenix and Flagstaff areas, this vibrant crew always has something exciting on the horizon—and thanks to the Turners’ leadership, a full year of adventures is already planned for the youth who remain.

In addition to her work with the crew, Val also served as Troop 41’s Eagle Scout coach, guiding many young men on their path from Life to Eagle. She played a big part in helping Scouts reach one of the biggest milestones in Scouting—earning their Eagle.

To celebrate their contributions, Crew 2041 and Troop 41—alongside Scoutmaster Brian Cook—hosted a special farewell luau in their honor. The event was a touching tribute to Val and Clay’s service, complete with warm wishes, thoughtful gifts, and stories shared by the youth and fellow Scouters.

We are grateful to Val and Clay for the dedication they’ve poured into our Scouting community. Please enjoy a few photos from the farewell gathering, along with this beautiful thank-you note from Clay and Val:

Dear Troop 41 and Venturing Crew 2041 Past and Present,

Val and I are truly overwhelmed by your kindness and generosity. From the thoughtful compass rose crafted by a local artist to the celebration you held in our honor, and the kind letters from so many, every detail meant so much to us. Your thoughtful gift is not only artwork but a meaningful reminder of the direction and guidance that Scouting has provided in our lives. And we all know Val is really going to miss being with you all at Camp Geronimo! Maybe those coordinates will guide her back some time. More than anything, we want to thank you for the role you’ve played in our family's journey. The support, mentorship, and community you’ve provided have shaped both of our children in ways we deeply appreciate, and we are grateful for the bonds we’ve built with all of you. The leaders, parents, and children of this group will play a large role in our children’s future success. Keep up the great work. With heartfelt gratitude,

Val and Clay, you will be missed—but your spirit of adventure and service will continue to inspire. Yours in Scouting!
